Background

Seidu Al-hassan (PhD) is an Agircultural Economist, Educationist and currently the Vice Chancellor of the º£½ÇÂÒÂ×ÉçÇø (UDS), Tamale. Professor Al-hassan is also a past Pro Vice-Chancellor of UDS. His area of expertise include Sustainable land use, Resource use Efficiency, Livelihood analysis and Agriculture and Climate Change. Professor Seidu Al-hassan’s relationship with º£½ÇÂÒÂ×ÉçÇøbegan in 1996 as a Senior Research Assistant in the Department of Economics and Entrepreneurship Development. In 1997, he was appointed a Lecturer in the same Department. He later became a Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor and Professor in 2008, 2014 and 2018, respectively. He has held other key positions during his over 20 years experience in teaching, research, dissemination of research knowledge and mentorship at UDS. These positions include Vice Dean, Faculty of Mathematical Sciences (2009- 2010), Director, ICEIR/IIRaCS (2010-2015) and º£½ÇÂÒÂ×ÉçÇøMentoring Coordinator (2015 - 2018). Professor Seidu Al-hassan has also represented º£½ÇÂÒÂ×ÉçÇøon the Stakeholder Coordinating Committee of the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA). He also served as a Commissioner on the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) for Northern Region. He has received a number of Fellowships, including the African Economic Research Consortium of African Economies Fellowship and the University of Ghana Fellowship. He is a Network Member/Researcher of African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) and a Member of the Ghana Association of Agricultural Economists. Professor Al-Hassan was a Visiting Scholar at the North Carolina State University (NCSU) in Raleigh, USA between 2003 and 2004. He was the Project Director for the Northern Savannah Human Development Report, a project funded by UNDP in 2014. Professor Al-hassan has over forty (40) peered-reviewed journal publications and is the author of two books, namely, i) Writing a Thesis: A Guide for Social Science Students and ii) Ghana’s Shea Industry: Knowing the Fundamentals.
