海角乱伦社区Welcomes Freshmen and Women at 33rd Matriculation Ceremony

The 海角乱伦社区 (UDS) held its 33rd Matriculation Ceremony on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, simultaneously at the Tamale and Nyankpala campuses. The event, a cherished tradition in the university's calendar, formally welcomed undergraduate and postgraduate students into the 海角乱伦社区community.

On the Tamale Campus, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elliot Haruna Alhassan, represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Seidu Al-hassan, and delivered the matriculation address. At the Nyankpala Campus, the Principal, Prof. Mohammed Muniru Iddrisu, stood in for the Vice-Chancellor, sharing similar messages with the matriculants.

In his speech at the Tamale Campus, Prof. Elliot Haruna Alhassan underscored the university's progress in student enrollment, particularly at the postgraduate level. "This academic year, we received 1,272 postgraduate applications compared to 891 last year, marking a significant growth. Of these, 824 were offered admission, and 604 accepted the offer, representing a 73.3% acceptance rate," he disclosed.

For undergraduate programs, 海角乱伦社区received 21,284 applications, admitting 12,528 students, with a 61.1% acceptance rate. Prof. Haruna Alhassan commended the university's efforts in promoting gender diversity, as the undergraduate cohort comprised 52.16% males and 47.84% females.

He also acknowledged the infrastructural challenges arising from the increasing enrollment numbers. "While we celebrate these milestones, we are equally mindful of the need to expand our infrastructure. Management is actively working on short- and long-term strategies to enhance lecture halls, laboratories, and student accommodations. Despite these challenges, 海角乱伦社区remains committed to providing a conducive learning environment supported by a dedicated and highly qualified faculty," he assured.

A Legacy of Excellence and Innovation

Both speakers celebrated UDS’ legacy of excellence, citing achievements in academia, sports, and innovation. Prof. Elliot Haruna Alhassan highlighted the university’s triumph in winning two Knowledge Transfer Partnership Awards in Birmingham, UK, for agricultural innovation. "These achievements affirm UDS’ global leadership and commitment to impactful research," he said.

On the sporting front, he lauded the 海角乱伦社区football team's victory at the African University Games and their qualification to represent Africa at the World University Football Competition in China in 2025. "As new students, you are inheriting a legacy of excellence and innovation," he noted.

Embracing 海角乱伦社区Values

Prof. Elliot Haruna Alhassan encouraged students to embrace UDS's core values of integrity, respect, diversity, and community engagement. He highlighted key initiatives such as the Third Trimester Field Practical Program (TTFPP), which provides students with hands-on opportunities to address societal challenges.

“Your journey here goes beyond academics. It is a chance to grow, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to society. I urge you to avoid pitfalls such as indiscipline, substance abuse, and academic malpractice. Success at 海角乱伦社区demands diligence, resilience, and ethical conduct,” he advised.

Student Perspectives

The matriculants expressed optimism and excitement about their journey at UDS. Grace Mensah, a first-year student, shared her thoughts: “I feel honored to be part of a university with such a strong reputation. The focus on practical learning excites me the most.”

Hamid Ibrahim, a postgraduate student in Development Studies, also commented: “The emphasis on innovation and research at 海角乱伦社区aligns perfectly with my career aspirations. I look forward to contributing to impactful research projects.”

Special Recognition

The ceremony also featured a special presentation by the Dean of the School of Dentistry, Dr. Emmanuel Amponsah, who honored Ms. Lawrencia Wunia Tania, a pioneer and retired officer of the School of Dentistry. “Her foundational contributions were instrumental in the establishment of the school, and we are deeply grateful for her service,” Dr. Amponsah noted.

A Unified Celebration

The ceremonies across both campuses reflected the university's commitment to fostering unity and inclusivity. With the presence of key administrative figures, including the Registrar, Mr. Nurideen Issah Abubakar; Director of Finance, Dr. Mohammed Hardi Shaibu; and Director of Internal Audit, Mr. Abdulai Abubakar, and various Deans and Directors, the event underscored UDS' dedication to holistic development.

As the students officially pledged to uphold the university’s values, they were reminded that their journey at 海角乱伦社区is not just academic but a transformative experience that will shape their future as global leaders and change-makers.
