About The Programme

The MPhil programme at the 海角乱伦社区 aims at contributing to Ghana’s efforts to meet the objectives of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); particularly SDGs 1 (End poverty), SDG 2 (End hunger), 3 (Good health and well-being), 13 (Climate action) and 15 (Life on land), as well as the African Union’s aspirations as outlined in the Maputo and Malabo declarations.

The specific objectives of the programme are to:

  1. develop students' applied and advanced research capacity to contribute to new and emerging knowledge and technologies in sustainable agricultural and food systems.
  2. build students' capacity to develop, design and implement sustainable agricultural and food “communities of practice”.
  3. enhance the learning and research abilities of young women and men at the MPhil level in knowledge development and integrated analyses of issues in sustainable agriculture and food systems, and in the planning and conduct of original applied research, with particular emphasis on agriculture-climate-environment-natural resources management as well as agriculture-nutrition linkages.

  1. The broad, integrated and holistic nature of the MPhil programme with its practical skills and field training prepares the students to graduate with adequate expertise to work as:
  2. Self-employed agribusiness personnel and employers of labour
  3. Researchers and tertiary level lecturers
  4. Consultants in private consultancy firms
  5. Consultants to several governmental agencies
  6. Public sector employees – in Ministries, Departments and Agencies
  7. Employees of national and international NGOs
  8. Development partner organization personnel
  9. Personnel of other national and international organizations.
Entry Requirements

TO BE ADMITTED INTO A PROGRAMME LEADING TO THE AWARD OF A GRADUATE DIPLOMA OR THE MASTER'S DEGREE (MSC. AND M.PHIL), A CANDIDATE MUST:

  • Have obtained a good first degree (at least Second Class Lower) in an appropriate field of study from a recognised University. Applicants with a first degree below Second-class Lower division may be admitted upon the recommendation of the Department. Applicants with masters non-research may be admitted to a 12-month top-up programme in the same or related field leading to the award of an MPhil.
  • Submit an official transcript of your academic record.
  • Submit two referee reports from somebody familiar with the applicant’s academic work.
  • In addition, those seeking a research-related degree must attach a 3- 5 page research proposal of their intended area of research.
  • Satisfy any additional requirements prescribed by the Faculties/Schools. These may include relevant work experience, a written entrance examination and an interview.
  • Applicants must note that all MSc non-research programmes are available through Sandwich.
