About The Programme

The aim of the programme is to build the capacity of students to be able to manage and evaluate agricultural projects. The programme is for a duration of two academic years (2 years) organize during regular academic year session hosted by the Department of Agricultural and Food Economics.

The specific objectives of the MPhil Agricultural Project Management and Policy are to:

  1. train graduate students to acquire the theoretical concepts and approaches to managing agricultural programmes, projects and policies
  2. build the capacity of graduate students to acquire analytical and research skills to be able to evaluate agricultural projects, programmes and policies
  3. train students to acquire the professional knowledge, ethics and values require in agricultural project management
  4. train student to acquire advanced and applied academic knowledge to enable them to teach in agricultural training institutions.

Employment Prospects of Graduates       
Graduates of the MPhil Agricultural Project Management and Policy programme may find employment as: 

  1. Agricultural Project or Policy Development Officers
  2. Agricultural Project or Policy Managers
  3. Agricultural Management Research Officers
  4. Agricultural Policy Analysts
  5. Agricultural Policy Researchers or Lecturers
  6. Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Officers

NGOs and International Organizations: Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), USAID, International Fertilizer Development Centre (IFDC), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Rice Research Institute, Wienco Ghana Limited, AGRIMAT; International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI); Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA), African Continental Free Trade Area (AfTCA) 
  2. Corporate Institutions: Commercial Banks, Microfinance Institutes, Venture Capitals, Insurance Companies, Mining Companies etc.
  3. Crop Research Institute; COCOBOD; Universities, Agricultural Colleges, Science and Technology Policy Research Institute (STEPRI); Savannah Agricultural Institute (SARI), Animal Research Institute, Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG), Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), Ministry of Trade and Industry (MoTI), Bank of Ghana etc 
  4. Graduates of the programme can also establish their own consultancies and or become agripreneurs along the agribusiness value chain.  
Entry Requirements

TO BE ADMITTED INTO A PROGRAMME LEADING TO THE AWARD OF A GRADUATE DIPLOMA OR THE MASTER'S DEGREE (MSC. AND M.PHIL), A CANDIDATE MUST:

  • Have obtained a good first degree (at least Second Class Lower) in an appropriate field of study from a recognised University. Applicants with a first degree below Second-class Lower division may be admitted upon the recommendation of the Department. Applicants with masters non-research may be admitted to a 12-month top-up programme in the same or related field leading to the award of an MPhil.
  • Submit an official transcript of your academic record.
  • Submit two referee reports from somebody familiar with the applicant’s academic work.
  • In addition, those seeking a research-related degree must attach a 3- 5 page research proposal of their intended area of research.
  • Satisfy any additional requirements prescribed by the Faculties/Schools. These may include relevant work experience, a written entrance examination and an interview.
  • Applicants must note that all MSc non-research programmes are available through Sandwich.
